Description:
The Cauvery Water Dispute, particularly regarding the Mysore case, is a long-standing conflict over water sharing between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. This dispute has its roots in historical agreements made between the Princely State of Mysore and the Madras Presidency. The main issue centers on the allocation of Cauvery River waters for irrigation and other uses, with both states asserting that their rights and needs take precedence. The conflict intensified after the reorganization of states in 1956, leading to the establishment of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT) in 1990.
