South Indian devotional poems, written by men in the 15th to 18th century, use erotic language to express religious visions. The poems feature a courtesan addressing a deity, who combines her worldly knowledge with the deity's transcendent power. This volume is the first English collection of these Telugu writings, exploring their religious, cultural, and historical significance.
